Oral-B Pro 5000 SmartSeries Power Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush – Cleans great, who needs the bluetooth though?

My recent visit to the dentist wasn’t good: apparently i’ve been brushing too hard and brushing my gums away. Apparently, you can do too much of a good thingbut it wasn’t dire yet, whewthey recommended me this exact model of the oral b electric toothbrush, and i really wonder why i never bought one before. I always heard they were good products, but their price seemed to be a little daunting. To be clear, the price is a lot less cheaper than an expensive dental bill as a result of problems brought on by cheaper tooth brushes. The best thing about this is there’s a red light that comes on if you press down too hard. This is designed to make sure you do not brush too hardmy teeth have never felt cleaner. And it goes by much quicker now than it did before with an old fashioned brushlisten to your dentist: get one.

I left his toothbrush, the construction is well made and it feels great in your hand. Slightly bigger than my old brush from this manufacture. I’ve been using it for two days and i am extremely happy with it. I don’t know if the bluetooth functionality is a must because after using it for a day i kinda get tired of monitoring it on my phone so i just brush as always. Extremely happy with the product. Don’t know if there’s a big difference between being older 8800 model i had or no but we shall see.

This toothbrush is amazing, i bought 2 one for me and one for my son who has braces. The dentist recommended it for my son who recently had a cleaning and isn’t doing well brushing with his new braces. I was reluctant in buying as i read that research shows there is not a big difference between brushing with a manual vs electric. After using for a week i found that brushing with this electric toothbrush leaves me feeling like i left the dentist office every time. No grit on my teeth which i guess i never noticed when brushing with a regular toothbrush and my sons does not have plaque left around his braces after brushing. If you’re wondering the brush is too small and why is it round?. It allows you to focus on each tooth as it fits perfectly around the tooth. (i used the cross action brush). I haven’t used the blue tooth feature yet. But i will leave my review at i wish i would’ve bought this electric oral b sooner.

I am a big electric tooth brush user and cannot live without my dental arsenal. I have everything that is sold on the consumer market related to dental health, and this is my third electric toothbrush. I must say it feels really good in the hand because of its ‘fatter’ handle compared to the previous models. I could have taken one star off because of its incomplete looking finishes. But it doesn’t matter to me, and shouldn’t to anyone who is more interested in what this can really do for your oral health. I would recommend the crossaction and the pro white brush heads. Use them diligently and you will see what i am talking about. Bluetooth and the phone apps are unnecessary in my opinion, but i guess one who tries to avoid brushing may find useful. I use it just for fun sometimes. It certainly does not know what quadrant you are working on.

So, this toothbrush works really well. I love the features, although, i think the bluetooth is a little bit ridiculous. It had a few other things the 3000 version didn’t have that i wanted. The bluetooth–i could take or leave it. I don’t really feel the need to track my brushing habits on my phone with the bluetooth and frankly dealing with an app when i’m half asleep at night and ready to go to bed is even more unappealing. If they wanted to make this concept feasible, i they need to consider added a small chipset and memory for recording data and being able to auto-upload that information at a later time, when convenient for the user. Overall, definitely would recommend this. It was recommended to me by my dentist.

I find that it does a fairly good job of cleaning my teeth but the noise is hard to get used to. I’ve used it for months and it still shocks me. I would prefer a thinner wand. I have not connected it to my iphone. I probably will never use that feature. I just wanted a good electric toothbrush. I’m not sure i would buy it again.

This is my fourth oral-b electric toothbrush and my second oral-b 5000; the first lasted a little less than 4 years. You have to wonder why braun refuses to make a replaceable battery model, as i’m forced to again retire a perfectly good product only because the battery is toast. A five star product that gets downgraded for planned obsolescence. This 5000 model comes with bluetooth. Not only do i not need to have my brushing history tracked, i sure don’t want an app reporting my usage to who knows who. Fortunately, that option can be turned off. I suppose if you are a parent and tracking a child’s usage or something similar, this might be a useful feature. If you don’t mind how the app uses the data. All that being said, the oral-b 5000 is an excellent toothbrush. My visits to the dentist have been reduced to every 2-3 years, and even that is not so much for cleaning as routine monitoring. It’s great to have the hygienist have little or nothing to do. The case is also nice for travel–no dead battery from the brush getting crushed inside luggage.

I have had one of these for a year now. The blue tooth part was useless for me – i tried it at first, but unless my phone was pretty charged, it would not pick it up. I just didn’t find it at all helpful. I also wish the stand was somewhat smaller. Not sure why you would need 4 toothbrush heads in the stand at the same time. And the water from the brush heads drips down inside making the holders kind of yucky and in need of frequent cleaning. My 18 year old daughter wanted to try it so i gave her her own toothbrush head.

Best power toothbrush i’ve ever owned:-)first let me say i did not purchase this on amazon:-( i bought this directly from my dental office. With that said, i’m very happy that i made the purchase:-)this is the first time i’ve ever owned a ‘smart toothbrush’ and here we are 3 months into owning it and i’m pretty impressed. I’ve had battery powered toothbrushes before but they really don’t compare to this thingi like the weight in my hand and the vibration technology it uses in conjunction with the numerous heads available for it. I will admit it took me a couple days to get use to the ‘sensation’ it creates (and i can definitely see some folks with very sensitive teeth/gums not liking it), but now weeks later it feels fine. As odd as it may sound, my teeth actually feel cleaner after i brush:-)the whole bluetooth feature – at first seemed a bit gimmicky to me and even annoying – i mean seriously, now i’ve got to take my phone in the bathroom with me????. But honestly it’s no big deal and i like how long it tracks my brushing, gives me goals to obtain, tracks when during the day i brush and even has set cleaning routines i can follow – like fresher breath, tarter control, whitening and so on. And as you can see by my screen shot, you can even watch a simple animation to follow to give you a more consistent cleaning of all your teeth. I also get feeds across the bottom of the screen while i’m brushing so i can watch a little news, check out the weather and even catch up on sporting scores. This particular model also has a easily seen racing strip that lights up if you’re applying to much pressure (which my dentist tells me is my biggest problem). When i purchased mine i got a total of 6 heads, the charging stand and the travel case.

First i want to acknowledge this is expensive for a tooth brush, but still not as expensive as a dentist. I looked into buying this tooth brush, because my son just could not and would not do a good job brushing his teeth, i was constantly sending him back into the bathroom in frustration. I will say this tooth brush has improved that situation and i got an extra pair of heads so we share the brush which makes the cost sting a little less. I get about 2 weeks brushing off of a charge after having it about it month. I have noticed that my own teeth and gums feel and look healthier using this brush as well. The only reason i am not giving this 4 stars is because the app/blue tooth is somewhat of a pain to use and sync, and even though it has different brushing modes its hard to switch between them and know which one you are on unless you have them memorized. Overall i am happy with the purchase, and have and would recommend this to people who are looking to up their oral health.

I really love this toothbrush. I’ve had sonicare’s in the past and i liked them, but i honestly do feel that this gets my teeth cleaner. I like the charging station for this one – it’s rectangular and holds 4 extra heads, it’s much sturdier than the small round ones. This does have bluetooth and works with the oral-b app. The app is a novelty thing and it’s nice, but it wasn’t why i bought this brush. I like that it has multiple cleaning types, though without the app it’s impossible to tell which one is selected. The battery lasts me about 5 days in between charges, which is pretty standard. I like how clean my teeth feel using this brush, also i don’t worry about losing dental work like i did with the sonicare.

I have had a sonicare power toothbrush for a long time but found that it tickled my lips when i used it so gave up on a power toothbrush, letting my use it. A recent dental inspection convinced me that i needed to do something more and the dentist office was promoting oral-b so i decided to try one. Got to say i am quite pleased with this unit. No more tickling of the mouth and my mouth really feels clean when i am done. I am actually using it, along with a waterpik type oral irrigator every day. This unit came with one floss action toothbrush head and i have added a cross action toothbrush head to the mix. Can’t really decide which brush head i prefer. The floss action head feels like it works better on the cheek side of the tooth as it seems to engage the tooth including the space between the teeth as the head is somewhat elongated along the axis of the toothbrush. But, on the tongue side of the teeth, it is harder to get the brush head aligned to get that same engagement. The cross action head is round, hence the engagement with the tooth is the same whether on the inside or outside of the tooth.

I used to have an oral b rechargeable around 12-15 years ago and i really liked it. It had a couple of speeds and felt very comfortable so i got used to it fairly quickly but died after about 7 years. I did replace it with a cheaper version which i hated to much because it only had one speed and it was rough so i tossed it out after three months. So for the past 6-8 years i’ve been using a regular toothbrush but my hygienist suggested i go back to electric because my gums have really receded and she felt i needed something gentler on the gums. Since this was on special during the prime day and had fairly good reviews i decided to buy one. Well this one is loud and feels like it’s harsh/rough. My pet always runs away when i turn this thing on. Also, its annoying that i have to reset the setting to gentle each time i turn the thing on. I’ve been using it for about nine days and i still don’t like it. I’m so tempted to go back to my regular brush but maybe the brush head it comes with is too hard. Here are the specifications for the Oral-B Pro 5000 SmartSeries Power Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush:

  • Bluetooth communication between brush and smartphone provides real-time feedback on brushing habits, helping you achieve amazing results
  • Floss Action round brush head with micropulse bristles for a superior and interdental clean vs a regular manual toothbrush.
  • 3D cleaning action oscillates, rotates, and pulsates to break up plaque and remove more plaque along the gumline than a regular manual toothbrush
  • Pressure sensor lights up on brush and smartphone if you brush too hard. 5 modes: Daily Clean, Gum Care, Sensitive, Whitening, and Deep Clean
  • To maintain the maximum battery capacity of the rechargeable battery, unplug the charging unit and fully discharge the handle with regular use at least every 6 months

I originally bought the oral-b black pro 1000 for $64 less, then found out they sold a version that has a pressure sensor. So i bought this one for that reason. I tested the pressure sensor on my hand & it worked, but when testing it in my mouth it doesn’t work. I bit down on the head & pressed it hard against my teeth. I don’t know if every single bristle has to be pressed hard all at once or what, but it’s definitely not going to help me if the pressure sensor doesn’t work in my mouth. Another thing i don’t like is the oral-b sensitive gum care brush heads aren’t even as soft as as a standard toothbrush with soft bristles. Maybe i should have stuck to a standard toothbrush instead of wasting $170 on all this.

My dentist has been suggesting an electric toothbrush for years now and i’ve been hesitant. So this last visit i asked her the true benefits and after all she said i knew it was time. This is the one they promote at my dentists office and was forever grateful as always to be able to get it here at amazon for a much discounted price. Honestly, once you go electric you will never go back to manual. The clean feeling you get is amazing. My pro 5000 came with a ‘floss action’ brush head which i sometimes use but i also purchased a pack of sensitive heads. I have very sensitive teeth and gums and have always used ultra sensitive manual toothbrushes. To be honest it has taken me a while to figure out the best way to use the brush for me. I always brush longer than 2 minutes so the timer is a must to have but i know i am brushing a t least 2 minutes every time.

Bought this to replace a waterpik toothbrush that would no longer hold a charge. I wanted to go back to the rotary style brush head, my dentist had mentioned a while back that he preferred and recommended them. I am very happy with this purchase. Having used it for a couple weeks, my teeth definitely have a cleaner feel to them when i’m done brushing. Pros:- seems to do a great job cleaning- the quarterly alerts to send you to the next quadrant of your mouth are very helpful- i like the pressure sensor that alerts you if you’re brushing too hardcons:- i don’t use the bluetooth at all so it’s frustrating that i had to pay extra for the feature, which at best i see as a novelty. I guess as others have mentioned, for those with kids it is useful to keep an eye on their habits, but that situation does not apply to me and i have absolutely zero interest in syncing my toothbrush to my phone. That is by far the primary reason i docked it a star; i’d much prefer to pay less and just have something that cleans my teeth. I was not able to find an equivalent oral-b brush without this feature. – maybe i’m still getting used to the toothbrush, but i drool all over the place when i’m using it. It runs down the brush handle, onto my hand, down my arm.

Reviews from purchasers :
