Pharmaceutical Specialties Free & Clear Hair Shampoo : Seriously sensitive skin – and NO ISSUES using this!

I had red scalp and sometimes itchy but no dandruff so i figured allergies. I already use vanicream on my daughter so i gave this a shot. It cleans well and with the conditioner my hair looks great. It looks smooth, soft but not greasy or limp. The irritation on my scalp is going away too. It even makes my white hairs lay right. If you have course hair, you might need a strategy like leaving in the conditioner longer. It’s worth giving it a shot. Not alot of suds but i read that more lather doesnt mean it’s doing a better job at cleaning but companies know we associate suds with clean.

Like a lot of other people using this product, i have issues with eczema, skin sensitivity, scalp sores, bumps, itching, dryness, and weird nightmarish rashes that pop up from time to time. The scalp problem has driven me nuts until i finally admitted i had a problem and decided to try a hypoallergenic shampoo. This one had good reviews and was safe for my color-treated hair, so i placed an order. After just a few uses, my scalp bumps and sores are finally going away. You will definitely need to use conditioner with this shampoo. It does not produce a lot of lather, but it gets your hair and scalp squeaky clean and is safe on sensitive skin. I think the price for this shampoo is reasonable and the relief it’s providing is well worth it. I can live without scented hair.

My dermatologist recommended this shampoo after i developed contact dermatitis of unknown cause. She thought my shampoo (john paul mitchell tea tree and lemon sage thickening shampoo) might be the culprit. I have been using the free and clear shampoo and conditioner for a month and my dermatitis has not returned. However my hair is dryer and less manageable than before. It does the job however and i do recommend it if you develop and allergy to your shampoo.

It cleans without causing or perpetuating reactions. It contains no fragrance or masking fragrance ingredients, nor any plant extracts that are anything but hypoallergenic. It is fairly harsh and stripping. However, it is better than using fragrance free dish liquid to wash your har because that’s the only thing you can find. I have fine hair, and if i use actual soap it becomes a giant sticky snarl. Detergent based cleansers work better for me. I’d use the conditioner too, but it makes my scalp itch.

I have mixed feelings about this product. First things first – it’s been great for my sensitive skin and scalp. For most of my life, i’ve had red/itchy skin despite trying all sorts of high end, expensive products targeted towards sensitive skin, it was only last year (after 10 years of skin abuse) that i realized the culprit for my blotchy/red skin was the shampoos i was using. I tried a few other shampoos which didn’t have any impact on improving my skin, but within 1-2 washes of using this product – i could see the perpetual blotches on my face clearing up because of finally not being irritated by harsh chemicals. This shampoo has been great for my sensitive skin, and does not break me out at all. Now for the ‘not so great’ parts -a) this shampoo does not suds well at all, which makes application difficult. It takes a lot of product for me to ensure i clean all of my scalp, because it’s difficult to spread around. I know that generally sulphate-free shampoos don’t sud, and given how ‘clean’ this shampoo is with it’s ingredient list – i can live with the trade-off – but purchase this product with clear expectations. B) extremely drying – i absolutely can not use this product without a conditioner. It leaves your hair feeling ‘squeaky clean’ which is not necessarily a good thing.

Doesn’t dry it out (thanks to their conditioner and lotions. Which i use as a leave in conditioner too). I have allergies due to antibiotic overdose and this brand does the trick for me. Makes life pleasurable again. Seriously, no one likes taking 5 showers in a row trying to get off some lotion or perfume that caused a histamine reaction.

It took forever for me to discover free & clear hair products, but i am a die hard fan now. I have super sensitive skin and this has made the difference. I’m allergic to a lot of the components of other shampoos and can totally tell the difference if i use something other than f&c.

I have a lot of allergies and very dry skin. I used to use another brand of hypoallergenic shampoo, but they quit making it. So for a number of years i just did the best i could, switched brands when i got bad reactions, rinsed extremely well and itched. So one day last year after i’d had to quit using yet another shampoo i searched amazon and found this. Not only is it hypoallergenic, it is also a good shampoo. It gets my hair clean without drying it out. I didn’t order the conditioner because of the cost, since i didn’t know whether this would work out for me at all. It turns out that i don’t need the conditioner. (my hair is short, straight and very fine — your mileage may vary. )and the best part is that it really is hypoallergenic. I hadn’t realized just how badly my scalp had been itching until it quit. There are other shampoos out there that are unscented but contain other ingredients that can cause reactions. Reading the other reviews i would like to point out that hypoallergenic is not the same as mild, and neither hypoallergenic nor mild is the same as natural. Some of the worst reactions i have had have been to ‘mild’ or ‘natural’ products.

This is the only shampoo that is gentle enough for my sensitive skin. I’ve tried countless shampoos but this is the only thing i’ve found that is truly hypo-allergenic. I wish it weren’t so runny; it’s too easy to waste it because it’s so watery. I also wish it wouldn’t dry my hair out like it does. For the extremely sensitive-scalped folks like me, this may be your only solution (pun fully intended).

This is an ‘all relative’ review – if you have allergies or reactions to enough things that you’re reading about this product you’ll know what i mean. I have a very sensitive scalp and cannot tolerate many ingredients or any fragrances, etc, i do not have eczema or dandruff. Pros: it does not have any fragrance – the smell out of the bottle is a light paraffin odor, but this does not linger; it does not irritate my scalp – this is huge – and it rinses out fully. For a daily shampooer, it’s often best to really do the shampoo twice instruction routine on the bottle (which i never did back in the any old ‘regular’ shampoo days). It is mild on the hair, drier than super shampoos, and has out dried out my scalp. Tried a lot of the others out there, this is the one that is the most benign for me. Cons: lacking the sls or more efficient surfactants, it does not do a great job on cleaning away scalp and hair oils or smell (see shampoo twice, it helps. ) it strips some of the shine and curl out of my longish hair. Maybe because of this or from ingredients, it tends to yellow the hair. If you are dark brunette you might never notice this. I use dhs clear every long now and then to strip some of this buildup off. Bottom line: it’s safe, doesn’t irritate, and doesn’t smell. I’ve not found any other that gets all that for day to day.

Works well and doesn’t trigger my asthma the way that strongly scented shampoos do. While this shampoo is not scented, that doesn’t mean that the ingredients have no smell at all. They do have a smell, but it is mild and not irritating to me. Note that this shampoo does not lather well when first applied to oily hair. If you rinse and repeat with the same amount of shampoo, it lathers generously the second time.

I have been using the shampoo for a while abd it is a great product and i have ordered a second one. My stardard for a good shampoo is that it doesnt make my dandruff worse and it hasnt made my dandruff worse. The shampoos i tried before this one would make my hair greasy and smell bad the next day. With this shampoo my hair doesnt start getting oily until the second day after shampooing my hair and my scalp doesnt smell anymore even after 2 days of shampooing my hair. Before winterwashing my hair with this shampooo before using my medicated shampoo kept my dandruff under control. I also love that this shampoo doesnt have any fragrance as i seem to not tolerate frafrances the older i get.

I started using this shampoo, as well as their conditioner and hair spray about 5 years ago after developing major skin sensitivities. After years of suffering from dandruff, scalp sores, rashes and such, i finally learned about this product which changed my life for the good. I am so thankful to have found this. The product itself is clear. It has no scent, however a very very minor chemical odor. Not enough to bother me or notice when using it. It has a wonderful lather, and creates lots of suds. It rinses out completely and leaves the hair slick and clean feeling. My stylist has used it when i’ve brought it to the salon for her to use on me, and she commented on how the product is very nice and what a great job it’s doing in my hair, considering it’s not a ‘salon’ product like she sells. I have not had any issues with skin sensitivity with this shampoo and am glad to have an option like this.

I’ve been using this brand daily for 10+ years, since my dermatologist recommended it. It has been a godsend, as i was getting so sensitive to all the other stuff i’d been trying that i had constant hives on my scalp. I have thick, somewhat oily, medium length hair. I usually use the conditioner also, but just so the curls behave. I don’t color or heat treat my hair at all, and this shampoo keeps my hair healthy, and keeps my skin from getting hives. It seems to lather fine for me, but i do notice a difference in areas with harder water.

I have had issues with my scalp for decades. I have to use a prescription steroid cream to keep my scalp psoriasis under control. If i run out then it’s a nightmare. So i decided to look up shampoos out of the blue, and came across this one. Right out of the gate you see a difference when you use it. Unfortunately, your scalp starts to get used to it and it isn’t as amazingly effective after a few weeks but it is still a huge improvement. I don’t have to use the cream as much, maybe 2-3x a month instead of 2-3x a week.

Contrary to a couple of reviews, this shampoo had plenty of suds and washed out easily. Also, it did not leave my hair dry. (i bought the conditioner, just in case i notice a problem with dryness. ) i have normal hair, it’s grey, i’m 72. A couple of years ago, i started reacting to most shampoos – very itchy scalp. Saw this brand after researching on the internet. I have used it for a couple of weeks and my head is not itching as much as with most types of shampoo that i have tried.
